Here are some highlights from my 45min live pilates this morning. If you string these together, 1 minute per exercise, it actually ends up being a pretty good workout!

I’ve been doing this for 10 years now, and my classes have evolved a lot over the years. I’ll usually incorporate new or interesting movements as I come across research or new findings; and (please don’t hate me pure Pilates lovers), I find it a lot more interesting than sticking to the standard 34 mat exercises 🙊

Teaching these online workouts is giving me a good run for my money, because usually during an in-person class, I can at least get a break when I run around to correct. With a live video I actually have to do the entire workout 🥵

With my first it was long. I was tired and alone. I gave birth on my back and needed an episiotomy, and was too worn out to insist on anything I’d had in my birth plan. I had very little control.

What actually gets you ready for birth? Is it kegels? Some general stretches here and there? Doing absolutely nothing? (You’d be surprised at how many women opt for the latter).

I’m here to tell you that birth is absolutely something you can train and prepare for. And it doesn’t take a list of 20 exercises to get you there.

It’s about knowing how to use your breath and positioning to encourage controlled lengthening of the pelvic floor, in a way that doesn’t cause damage. And it’s more straightforward than you think. You just need to KNOW what to do.

My first delivery was a powerless experience. Everyone was in control; everyone except me. This 5-Day Confident Birth Game Plan is about moving you into a position of confidence and power, so you have all the tools you need to have more control over your own delivery.

So my daughter actually really loves working out. She was so excited when I told her we were going to shoot a routine together, and even more so when she saw the matching pink outfits 🩷

Highlights were:
- A literal fart in my face
- Being told to stop counting down reps and let her do it
- And really just a lot of giggles

It wasn’t my hardest workout, but it’s definitely been the most fun!

Yes, I said it. You’ve seen all the movies with the doctors shouting ‘PUSHHHHHH’, but I’m going to go against the grain here and say that pushing as hard as you can during labour is NOT the solution. In fact, you may even be setting yourself up for increased risk of injury, tearing and prolapse.

So what exactly do I do then? Well, I’m glad you asked. It’s all about coordinating breath with controlled lengthening through the pelvic floor. Using positions that facilitate pelvic opening. And yes maybe ‘pushing’ a little bit, but in a way that doesn’t unleash hell on your pelvic floor.
